Internship Program Overview
Supporting its mission to enhance economic development and education, DRF offers full-time, paid internships to rising young leaders. Students from various backgrounds gain first-hand, real-world leadership experience in philanthropy, economic development, education, health and wellness, and community engagement.
“The Danville Regional Foundation wants our next generation of leaders to see the Dan River Region as a place of opportunity,” said Wendi Everson, a DRF Program Officer who manages the Internship Program. “We want to demonstrate to young people that there are challenging and rewarding employment opportunities in this area and aid in recruiting and retaining young professionals to the region.”
In addition to bringing the skills and positive energy of highly capable young people into the region, The Internship Program offers excellent, project-focused services for the Foundation and the community; demonstrates to participants there are challenging and rewarding job opportunities in the area; and helps recruit and retain young professionals.

DRF's Goals
- Bring the skills and energy of a group of highly capable young people to the region and to Danville Regional Foundation.

Program Description
The Internship Program will identify talented well-educated young people to help further the mission of DRF in the region through hands-on project-focused work and conceptual learning in the field of philanthropy. Interns will provide critical support to the DRF agenda while learning to become agents for social change.This program offers a unique opportunity for professional growth, as well as an opportunity to be a part of creating change.
DRF will provide a dynamic experience for interns with various backgrounds and interests in focus areas of economic development, education, health and wellness, and community engagement.
Interns will:
- Undertake major team projects to further DRF initiatives.
- Receive hands-on experience working in the field of philanthropy and with community partners.
- Participate in weekly discussions with local community leaders about required reading on community transformation.
- Spend a minimum of 2 hours per week working with area non-profit organizations.
- Develop a group of implementable recommendations on what the region can do to attract and retain more young professionals.

- $12.50 - $14.50 per hour (based on education level and experience)
- Housing (provided as needed)
- Academic Credit (students can pursue; DRF to assist with any required paperwork)
